Don't think you have a product to sell? Think again!
By: Michael Press
So you're looking to get started in business, but you haven't created a product to sell. Well, you really don't need to create one. Here's why: Public Domain. There are thousands of books, movies, songs, photos, etc. available in the public domian. When a product is available in the public domain, it means that the product is without a copyright. Since there is no copyright, you are free to do whatever you please with the product. You can sell it for however much money you want, or you can give it away for free! The only thing with public domain content is that it had to of been created in the year 1923, or before. But here are some examples of books availabe in the public domain: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain, A Christmas Carol by Charles dickens, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, Alices Adventures in Wonderland by L. Frank Baum. The list goes on and on! You can legally copy these texts word for word, and sell them on your own for a profit. Another book available in the public domain is called Think and Grow Rich. I chose to give this book away as an incentive to joining the Creating Wealth E-zine. Need to know of some songs available in the public domain? How About Jingle Bells, O Christmas Tree, O Holy Night, Silent Night, and Deck the Halls. And this list goes on and on as well. These books and songs are available in the public domain, and they are relatively easy to find. Here's how to find them: Go to Google.com, and type in Public Domain Books. If you click around on the results, you will find complete books published entierly online. You can leagly copy the text in the book, and sell it to make a profit. As long as the copyright of the book is 1923 or before, then more than likely the product is available in the public domain. Here's a good website for more technicals on copyright laws, Public Domain Info. Now, if you find a good public domain book, you can make a profit on it by selling it just as it is, making audio tapes of it, or giving it away so people will join your e-zine. After you have found an interesting topic to write about that is appealing to many people, its time to start writing. All you really need to do is open up Microsoft word and start typing away! You'll be finished 17 pages before you even know it. It takes about two weeks to write a good ebook that will sell well. Be careful of errors in your writing though. Some common errors are spelling errors, grammar errors, and punctuation errors. And then there's the error where you accidentally delete half of your ebook! Make sure you constantly save your ebook so you don't lose any of the valuable information that you have typed. |
